Next we need to choose a motherboard for our HTPC build. Depending on your processor, you’ll need to find a motherboard that supports the socket your processor utilizes. There are several different types of sockets, but you can quickly determine the socket of your processor by looking at the processor specifications.
Since our HTPC is built more for playing media we probably won’t care much about synthetic and real world benchmarks. Instead, you should would focus on finding a motherboard that has all the connectivity options you want: DVI, HDMI, SPDIF, USB 3.0/2.0, Ethernet, Built in WIFI, etc.
