Standalone HTPC Build
Standalone HTPC Build Hardware
You’ve decided on a Standalone HTPC build. Next you’ll need to decided on the hardware you wish to use in your Standalone HTPC Build.
If you’ve read our HTPCBuild.com All-In-One HTPC Hardware Guide or Media Server Hardware Guide, you’ll noticed that the Standalone page has no links regarding components. Why? Simply because you can’t beat the offerings that are out there right now. Instead, I have a running list of available standalone HTPCs / Nettops. If possible, I’ll pull reviews from around the net or simply review them myself.
As I mentioned, there are two fairly good offerings right now. The Intel Atom and the AMD APU. I strongly recommend the APU over the Atom, it performs much better during high bit rate 1080p playback.
